Amazon handles real issues inside its app or website, not by calling you about a charge. Scammers use the fake charge to get you to “verify” details, install software, or buy gift cards to “reverse” it.
Red flags to watch for
- A call, text, or email about a large Amazon charge you don't recognize
- A request to confirm card or account details to “cancel” it
- Being asked to install an app or share your screen
- Being told to buy gift cards to fix or refund the charge

What to do
- Hang up and check your orders in the official Amazon app instead.
